DFS Daily Stab 5/5

DFS Daily Stab 5/5

We have a 6 game slate with some higher implied run totals, minimal upper echelon pitching, and a 6:45pm est start time. Let’s go!

Weather

Per Rotogrinders‘ Kevin Roth, it’s looking like a clean slate of weather. Sit back and enjoy the games!

Pitching

Shane McClanahan, TB $9700 – Looking over this slate, I feel like K upside isn’t there. Of course, they still play the game and someone COULD go nuts, but the projections aren’t leaning toward high K’s. Still, Shane McClanahan at Seattle is my favorite pick of the slate and that’s who I’m building around. Shane-o Mac hasn’t had an outing with fewer than 7 K’s this season and struck out 11 against AL Central leading Minnesota. Lock him in.

Nick Martinez, SD $7000 – Let me be clear. I don’t love this pick, but when you look around the slate, you see guys like Aaron Nola with an NYM matchup, Logan Webb struggled all through April and faces STL today, and then you have a lot of middle of the road guys. Martinez has faced very stiff competition thus far in the season (LAD, ATL, etc) but looks like a 5 inning, handful of strikeouts, 2-3 runs kind of pitcher. That’s all we need at $7000. I am likely to have plenty of Martinez in my rosters tonight.

Prop Bet – Taijuan Walker o3.5 K vs. PHI (DK -160)

Slashers

Kyle Schwarber, PHI $5300 – Schwarber faces RHP Taijuan Walker today. In 13 AB, he has 5 hits, all for HRs. Yes, 100% of Kyle Schwarbers hits against Taijuan Walker have been dingers. That’s almost 40% of the time. I’ll take that every day of the week, no matter his splits. Oh, his vs.RHP splits are sick too. Schwarber has produced 2.31 DK Points/PA against RHP between 2021-2022 and that makes him easily my player to build around.

Wander Franco, TB $5400 – The PvB experience is much lower than that of Schwarber vs. Walker, but in the short time Franco has been in the league, he’s shown he can go toe-to-toe with the best. In 6 AB against Robbie Ray, he has a double and a HR. We know he’ll be at the top of the order, provided it’s not a rest day, so I’m high on Wander Franco today. His 2.32 DK P/PA only reinforces my confidence in this matchup.

Byron Buxton, MIN $5500 – Is Byron a top 10 MLB player? Many say yes and there’s good argument for it. Today, he faces Spenser Watkins for the first time and I’m favoring the guy who’s off to a ridiculously hot start, Buxton. With 2.4 P/PA against RHP, Buxton is at the top of the slate in that category and I’ll be locking him in tonight.

Unlikely Hero

Trayce Thompson, SD $2200 – Thompson was called up recently from Triple-A where he was smacking the ball very well. Today, vs. LHP Jesus Luzardo, I could see Trayce batting somewhere at the middle/bottom of the Padres lineup in the place of Wil Myers who is on the IL. Thompson can play all three OF spots, so there’s a spot for him to play if any SD outfielder needs rest. His lefty splits are strong, even though there’s a small sample size. Still, at $2200, any amount of production puts him at 1x value and we can pay up for some real killers.

Stack to Consider

Minnesota Twins vs. Spenser Watkins – Buxton $5500, Correa $4600, Kepler $3500, Urshela $3100

Minnesota is one of two teams tied the highest implied run total today, the other being Philly. I prefer the Twins due to the matchup of Watkins and the Orioles bullpen.
