The Orioles Start the Road Trip Off Strong with a Win in the Bronx.

The Orioles rely on a long, strong outing by pitcher Jordan Lyles to save the pen and capture the first win of the series at Yankee Stadium.

The Orioles win another game and exciting game for the 3rd time in 4 games as they defeat the Yankees 6-4. Jordan Lyles on the mound was exactly what the Orioles needed in this one as he went for 117 pitches and 6.2 innings with 8 Strikeouts. He did let up 2 homeruns to Aaron Judge, but let’s be honest, that guy is on a who other level at the moment.

The first two innings didn’t start off as good as the Orioles wanted it, going 3 up and 3 down in both innings to Gerritt Cole and falling behind 2-0 off a Judge Homerun and a Jose Trevino RBI single.

According to MLB.com, after the 2nd Inning, the Yankees Win probability was up to 81.2%, that number was quickly changed in the Top of the 3rd.

Cedric Mullins and Robinson Chirinos got the momentum going for the O’s with a Stolen base from Mullins to put him and Chririnos in scoring position after Chirinos hit a beautiful RBI double. More work from Austin Hays and Ryan Mountcastle put the Orioles up 4-2.

Aaron Judge grabbed another home run, (a 2-run shot) followed by a solo shotfrom Orioles Ramon Uris. To Bring it 5-4. Chrinos would get a Sac Fly, to round the score out to where we end at 6-4.

The Bullpens were saved for both teams in this one as both starters went deep into this one. As mentioned before, Lyles went 6 and 2/3 innings, and Cole went further with 8.0 IP and 11K’s

When the Orioles hit the Pen, Felix Bautista and Jorge Lopez got the call, both each gave up a walk, but no hits and Lopez got the save.

Orioles Roster Moves for the Road Trip

The bullpen was bolstered after a needing to use more than they hoped for last night after the injury to Spenser Watkins and that caused for a few Roster Moves that dropped before the game.

The Orioles did place Spenser Watkins on the 15-Day IL with a designation of a Right Elbow Contusion.

The Orioles also sent down Pitcher Mike Baumann and INF Tyler Nevin to Norfolk.

With the 3 Spots open, the Orioles selected 3 for the pen, all right handers, Marcos Diplan, Logan Gillaspie, and Beau Sulser.

Diplan has had multiple solid performances in AAA Norfolk, Gillaspie was great in his outing last week for the Orioles, and Sulser is the new one out of the bunch for Birdland, coming over from the Pirates organization.

My good friends over at Pittsburgh Prospects, Cody Potanko and Anthony Murphy were not excited to hear of his departure, so it may mean more “blue skies” for Birdland.

A great Game by the Orioles, as the move to 18-25 on the Year! Our friends over at Camden Chat put out a tweet that showed where the Orioles were in this situation last year, and it’s safe to say this team is showing GREAT progress. A 12-game swing in progress looking at the numbers, the Orioles are currently at 18-25, taking them 43 games to get to the 18-win mark, last season the record of the Orioles when they hit 18 wins was 18-37. 55 Games.

THIS IS THE PROGRESS YOU LOVE TO SEE.

The first blank sheet for Adley Rutschman since making his debut on Saturday as the Top Prospect went 0-4 and a strikeout. Adley is going to see games like this, and it was safe to say he was having a hard time figuring Gerritt Cole out. An issue that even veteran guys STILL struggle with. Regardless, Adley still found ways to dig into the counts of each at bat, foul a few off with 2-strikes and make a presence at the plate. Still great things to see and be excited about.
