Leftover Lumber: Looking Back at This Week in Baseball

Hello everyone, and welcome to a new feature that will debut every Sunday on Slasher Sports called Leftover Lumber.

During this weekly piece we will look back at some of the thoughts we had during the week but did not make it to a full article form. We will also use this to share things that we have enjoyed reading or that was created by some of our favorite baseball minds across the web. We hope you enjoy.

Week of May 15th-21st

Three Walk Off Wins for Baltimore? Two On Back-to-Back Night!?

Yep, you read that right. The Orioles are playing pretty decent baseball as of late. Even with the injuries to guys like Ryan Mountcastle being missed from the lineup, the O’s are performing better than what there record is showing. Now look, this doesn’t mean that we believe they are going to turn it around and win the 2022 Fall Classic, but its nice to see rebuilds start to come to fruition. And with some clutch victories against two AL East divisional opponents, you can’t help but get excited.

Welcome Back Keston Hiura!

Speaking of Walk offs, I would be doing such a disservice to the game if we didn’t mention what happened in Milwaukee on Wednesday. Keston, who was recently sent down to Triple-A Nashville was called back up from Hit City to Cream City and delivered and extra inning no-doubter against the defending World Series Champions Atlanta Braves. Our very own Billy Graves dedicated a whole episode of his Hit City Podcast to this epic ending. Go ahead and have a listen here.

Trevor Story is Playing with a Chip on His Shoulder, and it’s SO EXCITING

Trevor Story was one of the last to sign this offseason, and that meant he didn’t get the long term deal her was looking for. He also isn’t playing his normal position. With that all being said, the fact he missed the majority of spring training, Story started very slow for the Red Sox, a fan base you don’t want to get on the bad side of. He was heading down that path, but not any longer. Story has begun to play with some vengeance as he is hitting them out of the park and going on an absolute tear this past week.

We asked over on Slasher Sports Twitter if the Red Sox will be Buyers or Sellers once the deadline comes. Could that mean that Story is playing for a blockbuster trade?
