Orioles Fall 12-8 to Yankees in First Game of Series in the Bronx.

The Baltimore Orioles came into the game Tuesday night at 6-10, but 2 of those wins came from a series victory from the Yankees earlier this season. They now finish the day .500 against the Bronx Bombers are the Orioles fall 12-8. The Orioles were defeated from a 5 Home Run night from the Yankees, with one coming from Birthday boy Aaron Judge, and three coming from Anthony Rizzo.

Lyles strong at Start Until the Long Ball

The Orioles started veteran pitcher Jordan Lyles lasted 4.2 innings and 92 pitches. He was consistent until the first (yes first) Rizzo home run then couldn’t settle back down.

Anthony Rizzo’s first home run was the shortest it could get with a trip around the bases. As the it just made it over the right field wall to the first row of seats in the short porch.

Jordan missed pitching for at least 5 innings for the first time this year. Lyles, who is now the only true veteran in the Orioles rotation after the injury to John Means that will hold him out for the rest of the season, was signed to eat innings for this ball club, and he has found a way to do that. Lyles stat line finished him with 4.2 IP, 92 pitches (61 strikes), 7H, 6R, 1BB, 3K

Severino Shines at Home for Yankees

His opponent Luis Severino was on the opposite side of the spectrum. Severino was perfect into the 5th inning until a walk was granted to Jorge Mateo. He finished the sixth and was pulled after an Anthony Santander 3-run home run. He finished the day with 6.0IP, 77 pitches (50 strikes) 3H, 4R, 2BB, 5K

The Home runs continued for the Yankees in the Eighth as Judge and Rizzo went back-to-back. Although Judge’s homerun was a sure thing, and a nice 30th birthday present, Rizzo was once again lucky to be playing at Yankee Stadium. Rizzo’s 3rd home run of the night was awarded an expected batting average (xBA) of just 0.10. Even Rizzo didn’t think it was going out.

A Few Birdland Bombs to be Excited For

Although the Orioles fell short, there was still some offensive plays to be excited for, and hope it brings momentum into the series. Anthony Santander, Austin Hays and Trey Mancini looked very good. The Orioles scored all 8 of their runs between the 6th and 8th innings.

Santander hit a nice 3 run shot to kick Severino out the game, and to get the Orioles back in it during the middle innings.

Mancini showed good contact and plate discipline in this one, specifically a nice RBI single to allow Cedric Mullins to score.

Austin Hays in the eighth also got himself a 3-run shot and brought the deficit even closer at the time to 10-8.
