England Defeats Germany 2-1 to Win First Ever Championship

England ended their wait for a major trophy as Chloe Kelly’s extra-time winner handed them a 2-1 win against Germany in the women’s European Championship final. The English women ended the losing drought Sunday, eliminating the prior hurt from two losing semifinals in the World Cup, in 2015 and 2019, and losses in the European Championship finals of 1984 and 2009.

The scoring began with an impressive goal from Ella Toone right after being subbed into the game. The record-breaking crowd of 87,192 at Wembley Stadium, England went wild giving their home team the lead late in the match, however, Germany’s Lina Magull scored the equalizer only a few minutes later.

The deciding goal came from Chloe Kelly in extra’s as she celebrated in a familiar way to sports fans of a prior generation. Kelly conducted a victory lap dawning only a sports bra, just like the iconic Brandi Chastain did in the 1999 World Cup.

The best part about the Euro 2022 is that it has shown that there is a depth to the women’s game that deserves the biggest possible stage. The crowd was absolutely electric at Wembley, and hopefully the support continues to strengthen and grow from this historic event.

Trade Deadline Looms Near

The MLB Trade Deadline is getting closer and closer as the last moment teams can make a move is Tuesday at 6pm EST. Lots of questions still remain as what will happen with less than 48 hours to go.

The main question revolves around Washington Nationals Outfielder Juan Soto, who has rejected a record high $440M contract extension with the team. The team has now listened to trade offers for the 23-year-old and are asking a very high price. According to multiple sources, three teams (Cardinals, Dodgers, Padres) seem to be the front runners if a trade does become a reality.

Over the weekend, Cincinatti Reds dealt arguably the top arm available at the deadline to the Seattle Mariners for a handful of prospects. The Mariners are looking to make their first postseason appearance since 2001. They currently sit in the second wildcard spot with a record of 55-48.

Be sure to stay up to date with all the trades that occur during the deadline here on Slasher Sports.

Watson has been accused of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct during massage sessions in civil lawsuits filed by 25 women between March 2020 and March 2021.
