Adley Rutschman Involved in Potentially Catastrophic Collision in Game vs. Rays.

The future of the Baltimore Orioles almost went up in smoke with a quick play at the plate Monday in Camden Yards. Thankfully, Birdland can breathe as Adley Rutschman seemed to be alright after a collision with Luke Raley.

The play, although routine was almost a dangerous one for Rutschman as Tampa Bay’s Brett Phillips hit a comebacker to Austin Voth who threw it to Adley to get the force at the plate.

Manager Brandon Hyde didn’t seem to be worried about the play in his post-game remarks as he stated “I’ve seen tough collisions; for me, that wasn’t a tough collision, but it was awkward, and so when it’s awkward, that definitely scares you, but once Adley popped up, I didn’t think anything of it. For me, that was a clean play, honestly.”

In the first two months with the major league squad, Rutschman has helped the Orioles become a more successful team, going 32-24 and only 3.5 games out of the wildcard race.

The Orioles will continue game two of their four game series against the Rays in Camden Yards tonight at 7:05pm EST. Shane McClanahan (LHP) will be on the mound for the Rays against righty Spenser Watkins for the Orioles. McClanahan, who started for the American League in these years all-star game is having a fantastic season with a 1.71 ERA and 147 strikeouts.
